What
is DI printing?
Direct Imaging (DI) is a modern print process which enables us to
go directly to press with your digital files. Unlike conventional
litho and digital print, our DI press requires no film, no toxic
chemicals and no toners.
What about the quality?
The
quality of print from our Heidelberg DI is comparable with traditional
lithographic print. This is partly due to its laser diode technology,
the edge sharpness and dot shape produced on the DI are the same
as you would expect from a conventional imagesetting device. Furthermore
the waterless system results in a sharper dot structure, and greater
flexibility in ink laydown since there is no dampening system to
bring into balance. In addition, waterless lithography results in
less paper stretch, lower dot gain, and more consistent process
control.
Our
DI can also print on a wide selection of papers ranging from 60gsm
paper to 330gsm board. Choices
include all substrates that can run on a conventional offset press,
including coated, uncoated, recycled, mylar, and self-adhesive papers.
How
much does it cost?
As our DI eliminates a large amount of
the traditional manual processes associated with print it is very
cost effective. Unlike most conventional digital presses there is
also no click charge to pass on to the customer. The machine is
especially suited to runs of 250 to 10,000 pieces.
